RESTON, Va., Dec. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Bechtel today announced that four national security sites the company manages and operates with industry and university teammates have earned a total of 12 U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration Sustainability Awards for 2014. These awards acknowledge superior performance in sustainability by improving the management of water, energy, vehicle fleet, pollution, waste, and greenhouse gases.
The four sites received the following awards:
- Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico, managed and operated by Los Alamos National Security, LLC—One Best in Class Award for green buildings and four Environmental Stewardship Awards for sustainability champions.
- Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, California, managed and operated by Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC —One Environmental Stewardship Award for renewable energy.
- Pantex Plant, Texas, managed and operated by Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC—Two Best in Class Awards for renewable energy and waste reduction.
- Y-12 National Security Complex, Tennessee, managed and operated by Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC—One Best in Class Award for exceptional service and three Environmental Stewardship Awards for waste reduction, innovation in approaches, and communication strategies.

The four sites support the downsizing of the nation's nuclear stockpile by conducting cutting-edge research related to energy, chemistry, supercomputing, health, and global security—among many other fields.
