Beaumont, Botsford and Oakwood announced their intention to come together to form a new health care organization on March 26. They reached a definitive agreement on June 23. The new organization was launched on Sept. 2 after federal and state regulatory officials reviewed and approved the affiliation and granted tax-exempt, not-for-profit status.
Beaumont's Health's 14-member board of directors is a blend of former board members of all three organizations and is chaired by John Lewis, former chairman of the Oakwood Healthcare Board.
Now that the new organization is launched, teams of leaders are working with their counterparts at the other organizations to develop plans for integrating functional activities that build on the individual strengths of the three legacy organizations.
Michalski believes the geographic footprint of Beaumont Health is one of its greatest strengths. It includes hospitals, outpatient centers, physician offices, long-term care centers, home care services and a multistate medical transportation business. This provides an opportunity to have a larger impact on community health in Southeast Michigan and on the health of the patient populations served at Beaumont Health facilities.
Between now and year end, Michalski and the executive team will work to consolidate and align all the individual entities that make up Beaumont Health. A new organizational structure will be developed. Management team members will be appointed to oversee various functions, reporting to the Beaumont Health executive team named this week. A naming plan for the eight individual hospitals under the Beaumont Health brand will also be developed.
