Beacon Health Options Tees Up for 5th Annual Stamp Out Stigma Golf Outing to Benefit Military Families
NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Beacon Health Options, a leader in behavioral health management, is pleased to announce it will host its fifth annual Stamp Out Stigma Golf Outing on Tuesday, October 31, at noon, at the Bayville Golf Club in Virginia Beach. Proceeds from the outing will go to the National Military Family Association (NMFA), which provides support and guidance for military members and their families.
"We are so proud of our long-standing relationship with the National Military Family Association and the important advocacy work they do on behalf of our military families," said Kerry Mooney, President, ValueOptions Federal Services, Inc., a Beacon Health Options company. "Our values align in so many ways. We are both committed to improving awareness of the importance of mental health services and ensuring military families know they can seek help without fear."
This week, the company hosted the Awesome Beacon Bike Ride during National Mental Illness Awareness Week (Oct. 1-7). Both events are part of Beacon's commitment to combatting stigma, which prevents many people in the military and in all walks of life to not seek treatment.
Net proceeds from this year's outing will help the nonprofit organization with its Operation Purple® Program, including camps that help children deal with a parent's deployment; Family Retreats that aim to strengthen families after deployment; and its Healing Adventures program for families of service members who are wounded, ill or injured. The funds will also help provide scholarships to military spouses, as well as support many other programs.
"Our service members sacrifice their physical and emotional well-being to protect our nation," said NMFA Executive Director Joyce Raezer. "We are thankful to Beacon Health Options for once again supporting our programs to help enhance the wellness of service members, veterans, and military families. Together we can reduce the stigma associated with mental health."

About Stamp Out Stigma
Launched in 2013 by Beacon Health Options, the Stamp Out Stigma initiative is now spearheaded by the Association for Behavioral Health and Wellness, in which Beacon is a member. The initiative aims to promote the eradication of stigma surrounding mental illness and substance use disorder, as stigma acts as a barrier to people seeking the mental health and substance use disorder care they need to recover. The campaign challenges people to recognize the high prevalence of mental illness and substance use disorder in order to transform the dialogue about both, from a whisper behind closed doors to a conversation.
