BCIU Presents Dwight D. Eisenhower Global Award for Sport to Guo Jie, China's Leading Sports Entrepreneur at United States Sports Academy
NEW YORK, Jan. 13, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) announced the recipient of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Global Award for Sport, which was presented to Mr. Guo Jie by BCIU President Peter Tichansky on Jan. 6th at the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama.

As the CEO of Worldteam Sports, Mr. Jie created the Nine-Star sports shoes, participated in the purchase of the first Chinese-owned Formula One racing team and is a major partner of the NBA operations in China. He also operates a chain of SportsCube sporting goods stores throughout China and has pioneered sponsorships and events in the region, including the first sports sponsorship of the 11th Asian Games.
Over the past 10 years, Mr. Jie has successfully marketed and promoted the growth of Red Bull Asia, organized the first Chinese yacht sailing around the world and secured an agreement to hold the Italian Super Cup preseason soccer matches in China, drawing nearly 90,000 spectators for the first match in 2009. Mr. Jie serves as the Vice Chairman of the Tourism Association for the Fujian Province and is a member of the board of directors for the Fujian National Tourism Group.
A champion of culture and art as it intersects with sport, Mr. Jie serves as the Undersecretary General of the Chinese Culture Promotion Society, which is supervised by the Chinese Ministry of Culture.
