BBVA Compass teams up with NBA legend Robert Horry
-BBVA Compass Foundation makes $15,000 donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of Laredo
-Former San Antonio Spurs player gives 250 students basketball tips at clinic on Tuesday
LAREDO, Texas., Dec. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Former NBA player Robert Horry stopped by Laredo on Tuesday to give 250 students basketball tips and to help the BBVA Compass Foundation present a $15,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Laredo.
The Boys & Girls Clubs will use the donation to host 600 children at its holiday parties and also to buy supplies and equipment for its learning centers.
"At BBVA Compass, our mission is to work for a better future for all people and that starts with children," said Susana Valencia, BBVA Compass Laredo city president. "We support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Laredo because they are helping to develop and prepare our leaders of tomorrow."
Hector Noyola, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Laredo's executive director, and Assistant Executive Director Kevin Lopez accepted the check from Valencia.
"We are wholeheartedly grateful to BBVA Compass for making the Christmas holidays happy and memorable for our members," Noyola said. "The bank's leaders agree with our beliefs that ‛great futures start here.'"
James Notzon, a BBVA Compass Wealth Management and Boys & Girls Clubs of Laredo board president, also attended the check presentation at the organization's offices.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Laredo is a city-wide network with four facilities in Laredo. The clubs, known as "The Positive Place for Kids," serve more than 35,000 young people. They provide guidance-oriented, character development programs conducted by a full-time trained staff.
