BBVA Compass sponsors Alabama Symphony Orchestra's 'Symphony in the Summer'
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., May 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- BBVA Compass will sponsor the Alabama Symphony Orchestra's third annual "Symphony in the Summer at Railroad Park" outdoor concert series, bringing classic works and family-friendly events to the park.
The free outdoor concert series will be held in the park, known as "Birmingham's Living Room," from June 7-9. During the three-day series, the symphony will play classical masterpieces by composers such as Beethoven and Aaron Copland, among others.
"'Symphony in the Summer' is becoming a tradition in Birmingham, and we're excited to bring the community together to experience classical music in our own back yard," said BBVA Compass Birmingham City President Alan Register. "Whether you're a classical music fan or just want to get the family outdoors, the event offers something for everyone."
The bank is a longtime supporter of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, through the BBVA Compass Foundation's support of the Alabama Youth Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble is dedicated to giving young musicians the opportunity to learn and grow by rehearsing and performing great orchestral music in a professional setting.
"The Alabama Symphony Orchestra looks forward to 'Symphony in the Summer' each year," said ASO Executive Director Curt Long. "Playing great music in the beautiful setting of Railroad Park with Birmingham's skyline stretched out before a packed crowd has really become one of the highlights of our season. We are grateful to BBVA Compass and to all those who join us in the audience for helping to make Railroad Park our summer home for a few exciting days."
Concerts will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, conducted by Resident Conductor and Principal Pops Conductor Chris Confessore and Assistant Conductor Roderick Cox, respectively. On Sunday, a variety of children's activities will kick off at 5 p.m., with a closing performance at 6 p.m. conducted by Confessore.
BBVA Compass sponsors the arts across its footprint. Most recently in Birmingham, the bank announced its sponsorship of the BBVA Compass Concert for Human Rights. The event will be held Sept. 14 and will support 50 Years Forward, the city's year-long celebration commemorating the 50th anniversary of what many see as the turning point in the civil rights movement.
