BBVA Compass presents financial literacy scholarship to San Antonio student
- College-bound San Antonio ISD graduate awarded $5,000 college scholarship
- Recipient completed a financial education course
SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- BBVA Compass presented a San Antonio ISD high school graduate with a 2013 Financial Services Roundtable Financial Literacy Scholarship to help jumpstart his higher education.
During an awards ceremony today at Concord Plaza, Highlands High School graduate Joe Fabela received a $5,000 scholarship. Fabela, who completed a financial education course in high school and graduated in June,plans to attend the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
"Encouraging financial education is essential to improving lives and financial well-being, which is why BBVA Compass continues to create those opportunities in the communities we serve," BBVA Compass San Antonio City President Andrea Smith said at the awards ceremony. "Joe's hard work and commitment to continue his education show his drive to succeed and we are proud to present him with his scholarship."
Fabela was among 13 students nationwide to receive the scholarship. BBVA Compass has partnered with the Financial Services Roundtable to award these scholarships for three years.
