MADRID, Jan. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Joan Roca, chef of El Celler de Can Roca and a BBVA ambassador, has participated as a member of a worldwide team of cultural personalities invited to the Davos Forum. Roca participated Saturday in a panel on nutrition and medicine, in a meeting parallel to the summit of economic leaders held annually in Davos. The parallel forum's aim is to "build bridges between artists that contribute to improving the global situation" in their various disciplines.
In the meeting on nutrition and medicine, Roca explained how El Celler de Can Roca is transforming worldwide cooking by international expansion and gastronomic innovation that he said is always "healthy and dependent on constant dialog with small producers."
During his speech in the World Economic Forum, Roca also shared some insights of the culinary-social project "The Cooking Tour Experience," the first leg of which took place last summer and has represented a milestone in the history of gastronomy and the next generation of chefs.
"It is a great honor to participate in this forum and have the opportunity to explain the story and the model behind El Celler de Can Roca to such a distinguished group of experts," said the eldest Roca brother. "I hope that our pioneering gastronomic tour, sponsored by BBVA, will inspire new innovative proposals on how to apply creativity on a global scale and how gastronomy can become a bridge between different cultures and a vehicle for social inclusion."
The BBVA ambassador also participated in a dinner held for worldwide cultural personalities under the motto The art of leadership. During this meeting, Roca shared his experience with personalities from a wide range of artistic fields, such as musician and producer Peter Gabriel, actress and poet Sarah Jones, singer Andrea Bocelli and Brazilian author Paulo Coelho.
On Feb. 10, the Roca brothers will present the documentary "Cooking up a tribute," which will open at the 65th International Berlin Film Festival. This film, produced by BBVA, depicts the world's first gastronomic tour. The film is a tribute to North and South American cuisine, which "has contributed so much to European and international gastronomy," Roca said.
