BB&T is top financial holding company for customer satisfaction
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., March 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BB&T Corporation (NYSE: BBT) has been named to BusinessWeek's 2010 list of the top 25 "Customer Service Champs."
At No. 20, BB&T was the only financial holding company to make the listing and one of eight companies to appear on the list for the first time in 2010.
"Client satisfaction continues to be our top priority," said Director of Client Services Debbie Holloman. "Our client service programs support engaged employees and a banking experience that clients appreciate."
BusinessWeek recognized BB&T for its decentralized operating structure, which allows for decision-making at the local level. The publication also cited BB&T's "20-minute rule," which requires employees to bump problems up to a set of experts if they can't resolve them within this period.
"BB&T is very proud of these results and we are even prouder that we continue to deliver knowledgeable advice and personalized care to our clients in a way that really sets BB&T apart," Holloman added.
To generate the list, Bloomberg BusinessWeek started with existing data from J.D. Power & Associates, which surveys consumers each year about customer satisfaction. Bloomberg BusinessWeek looked at the perceived quality of a company's staff and what customers think of its processes.
As in past years, Bloomberg BusinessWeek supplemented J.D. Power's database with its own survey through the BusinessWeek Market Advisory Board. Participants were then asked to nominate three companies they felt were best at customer service and three they felt were the worst. More than 1,000 people responded, providing additional data that allowed Bloomberg BusinessWeek to expand the rankings.
Bloomberg BusinessWeek's special report, "Customer Service Champs," is featured in the March 1 issue. Additional content, including full methodology, is available online at www.businessweek.com/go/customer.
BB&T also recently won Excellence Awards in 20 of 20 national categories – more than any other financial institution – from Greenwich Associates, a leading global financial services research and consulting firm.
BB&T received honors from Greenwich in categories ranging from overall satisfaction and customer service to financial stability and credit policy. Of more than 750 banks evaluated, only 33 received Excellence Awards. More information about BB&T's Greenwich Excellence Awards is available at www.BBT.com/greenwich.
With $165.8 billion in assets at Dec. 31, Winston-Salem, N.C.-based BB&T Corporation (NYSE: BBT) is the nation's 10th largest financial holding company.
