WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On February 7, Broadcasting Board of Governors CEO John Lansing kicked off the official launch of the new 24/7 Russian-language television and digital network, Current Time. The network is a joint production of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Voice of America.
"Current Time addresses the needs of Russian-speaking audiences in Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, and around the world. It provides an opportunity for those audiences to finally have professional, objective and trustworthy news and information," Lansing said.
"Current Time is professional, independent journalism for those looking to broaden their media choices in a media space dominated by Kremlin-controlled disinformation and propaganda. Through its fact-based journalism and features, Current Time reflects our profound belief in honest and accurate reporting as the best defense against falsehoods.
"Together, RFERL and VOA have created something greater than the sum of their two contributions had they been separated. The new brand, begun originally as a single program, is now a global 24/7 Russian-language television and digital networks. Thanks to [RFE/RL President] Tom Kent and [VOA Director] Amanda Bennett for setting the tone for an unprecedented level of cooperation between two BBG networks. It is a model for what's to come for U.S. international media. I'm proud that today we formally launch this network."
