CHICAGO, Aug. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas-based Baylor Scott & White Health has chosen Allscripts (NASDAQ: MDRX) dbMotion™ health information exchange platform to improve quality, reduce the cost of care, and integrate disparate clinical systems across the enterprise and throughout the community.
According to Carl E. Couch, M.D., President of Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance, physicians in the Dallas-Fort Worth region use a multiplicity of disparate electronic health records (EHR) which inhibits communication and data-sharing. The Allscripts dbMotion solution will be implemented to aggregate and harmonize patient information from these diverse technologies, and deliver actionable data to the point of care for improved clinical decision making. "Allscripts dbMotion will allow a patient's clinical information to be seen in every care setting," Couch said. "Additionally, data can flow back and forth among providers, and can then be used to improve quality and reduce waste."
Based in Dallas, Baylor Scott & White Health is the largest not-for-profit health care system in Texas and one of the largest health care systems in the U.S. It comprises 50 hospitals and more than 500 patient care sites, as well as approximately 6,000 affiliated physicians and 36,000 employees.
One piece of functionality that sets the platform apart is the dbMotion EHR Agent, which resides as a miniature application on any clinical EHR workspace. When information not found in the clinician's EHR shows up in the wider community record, EHR Agent alerts users and allows them to pull select information back into their native EHR.
"Physicians and other clinicians dislike having to log onto and work in multiple electronic systems," said Couch. Allscripts dbMotion is designed to deliver a comprehensive, real-time view of patient information in the provider's native workflow.
Another of Baylor Scott & White's top priorities is leveraging clinical information for population health analytics. To accelerate progress towards this objective, the organization will likewise adopt the Allscripts dbMotion Clinical Analytics Gateway (CAG), which enables users to maximize analytics packages. CAG serves as a conduit for aggregated, harmonized clinical information for enhanced population management and risk assessment.
"Baylor Scott & White Health is one of the largest, most innovative and important care institutions in the United States," said Paul M. Black, President and Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. "Their choice of Allscripts dbMotion underscores the importance of a sound population health strategy, and the absolutely critical need to share and integrate patient information to deliver efficiencies and drive positive patient outcomes."
