Bayer Sponsors Youth Programs in Washington, D.C., Celebrating World Environment Day
U.S. Astronaut Leads High School Students in Interactive Sustainability Workshop
WASHINGTON, May 23, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the sixth consecutive year, Bayer has teamed up with the United Nations Environment Programme's Regional Office for North America (UNEP RONA) to celebrate World Environment Day (WED) by sponsoring a series of youth-oriented environmental education programs in Washington, the 2012 WED host city in North America.
More than 60 students from Woodrow Wilson High School will participate in "Green Living, Green Working," a half-day, hands-on interactive workshop that will identify and address key regional "green" issues related to health, energy, recreation, education, economy and biodiversity.
The Bayer-sponsored program taking place at Woodrow Wilson High School includes an astronaut-led interactive workshop for high schoolers, a Bayer USA Foundation grant, and a Making Science Make Sense® booth at the WED Fair and Environmental Expo. Dr. Mae C. Jemison, the nation's first African-American female astronaut, science literacy advocate and environmental studies professor will lead the workshops.
The workshop will culminate in a series of presentations by the students to an audience of government, business and community leaders.
