RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Dec. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- To better serve the industrial vegetation management (IVM) industry with top talent, Environmental Science, a division of Bayer CropScience LP, today announced the team of professionals who will lead the company's growing IVM business. Following the recent Bayer acquisition of strategic DuPont Land Management assets, Norman Barclift and David Spak are both taking on new roles within the Bayer IVM business – Barclift as head of marketing and Spak as stewardship and development manager. Mathew Nespeca will continue to serve as head of commercial operations and Michael Biscieglia as western sales manager for the IVM business.
"The new and stronger Bayer IVM business is uniquely positioned to deliver the next generation of IVM innovation and risk management solutions," said Mark Schneid, chief marketing officer for Environmental Science North America. "As Bayer expands its role as a market leader in the IVM industry, we are continuing to invest in building a world class team designed to add critical value to our customers and the markets we serve."
Barclift, head of marketing for the IVM business, joined from the Bayer professional pest management business, where he most recently served as general insect control (GIC) product manager. As the GIC product manager, Barclift was responsible for the development, planning and execution of strategic marketing and brand planning for the portfolio. Barclift brings to his new role a focus on customer centricity and a commitment to uncovering true insights about what customers need most so he can lead the Bayer marketing team in delivering that value. In his new role, Barclift will lead the conceptualization, planning and implementation of marketing strategies and tactics for the IVM business. Prior to joining Bayer in 2011, Barclift served the crop protection and professional product industries for more than ten years in marketing management and sales roles. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Business from Delaware State University, a Master of Science in Agriculture Extension & Education from Virginia Tech, and an MBA from Wake Forest University.
"Through our acquisition of strategic DuPont Land Management assets, we're creating a new frontier in the IVM industry," said Barclift. "We have the passion at Bayer, working together with our customers, to really make a mark on this industry."
Dave Spak has been appointed stewardship and development manager for the Bayer IVM business and brings more than a decade of experience in product development, technical support and field development. Spak joined Bayer in 2001, and most recently served as product development manager for Environmental Science. In his new role, Spak is responsible for development of new and existing products in the IVM business, and for managing the direction of development and technical service activities associated with proper stewardship. Spak holds a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy and Master of Science in Turfgrass Science from Pennsylvania State University. He earned his doctorate in crop science from North Carolina State University, specializing in turfgrass physiology, plant growth regulators and herbicides.
"This new frontier is about delivering the next generation of innovation and risk management solutions for IVM professionals," said Nespeca. "To further support their needs, and our growing business following the recent DuPont acquisition, Bayer is building a team of top-notch talent, and we look forward to introducing the industry to our fantastic expanded team of IVM professionals in the coming weeks."
Matt Nespeca, head of commercial operations, has led the Bayer IVM business for more than three years and has more than 20 years of experience in the vegetation management industry. He has served in a number of executive-level management and specialist roles with organizations including American Cyanamid, The Nature Conservancy and Conservation Land Company. Nespeca holds a Bachelor of Science in Forest Resources from Auburn University and a Master of Science in Forest Biology from Virginia Tech. Mike Biscieglia has 27 years of industry experience, and has managed sales and fostered relationships with Bayer customers in the Western region for three years.
