KABUL, Afghanistan, Sept. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bayat Foundation (www.bayatfoundation.org), Afghanistan's largest, private, non-profit Health, Education and Social Development Organization, has once again demonstrated its unshakeable commitment to improving the lives and health of Afghans, by announcing the successful conclusion of the Foundation's first-ever "Afghans In Sight" program, which distributed eyeglasses and provided vision care services to Afghans affected by challenges to their eyesight.
Launching the Afghans In Sight program highlights the first phase of the Bayat Foundation's efforts to expand the Foundation's vision health and eyeglasses distribution initiative throughout Afghanistan. The long-term objective of the Bayat Foundation's Afghans In Sight Program is to distribute at least 5,000 pairs of eyeglasses and provide basic vision care to Afghans who are affected by compromised eyesight.
Held on August 29, 2017, at the Bayat Humanitarian Care Center in Kabul, teams of medical personnel and rigorously trained volunteers transformed the Humanitarian Care Center into a one-day vision care clinic. There, the compliment of medical personnel and specialized volunteers representing The Bayat Foundation and The Bayat Group of Companies, provided each patient with a full range of vision care services, including the following procedures:
Eye Examinations: (Refraction, Otto Refractometer (OT), IOP (Intra Ocular Pressure)
- Syringing
- Medication
- Eyeglasses Fittings
- Eyeglass Pulsing
- Ophthalmoscopy and Retinoscopy
Each patient who received a pair of glasses was also provided with a protective case for their glasses, as well as a supply of cleaning solution and a customized cleaning cloth. Patients will also be given a full range of essential after-care health services including referrals for additional medical treatment.
"Thousands of Afghans are affected by challenges to their eyesight—challenges that can be removed through the simple, but life changing gift of a pair of eyeglasses," said Dr. Ehsanollah Bayat, the Co-Founder of The Bayat Foundation.
"Since 2014, The Bayat Foundation, working with The Starkey Hearing Foundation, has restored the hearing of over 3,000 Afghans—and now, we're grateful to start the first phase of our efforts which will give the gift of vision to almost 5,000 of our fellow Afghans as well," said Mrs. Fatema Bayat, the President of The Bayat Foundation.
