WASHINGTON, Feb. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In their second year as a Gold-Level national partner, BAYADA Home Health Care will be supporting various venues at The ALS Association, including the Walk to Defeat ALS®, which raises funds from Walk events across the nation to support The Association's mission priorities. These priorities include care services, advocacy, and research to find treatments and a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS. They will also work directly with several of our chapters on unique opportunities where they have a larger footprint including, Greater Philadelphia, Western Pennsylvania, Jim "Catfish" Hunter in North Carolina, Greater New York and South Carolina.
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Eventually, people with ALS lose the ability to initiate and control muscle movement, which often leads to total paralysis and death within two to five years of diagnosis. For unknown reasons, veterans are twice as likely to develop ALS as the general population. There is no cure, and only one drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) modestly extends survival.
"We are proud of our partnership with The ALS Association and the work we're doing together to develop specialized trainings that meet the specific care needs of those living with ALS," said Mark Baiada, founder and president of BAYADA Home Health Care. "We are humbled and grateful to help so many families affected by the disease to live their lives to the fullest."
"We greatly appreciate BAYADA's ongoing support," said Barbara Newhouse, President and CEO of The ALS Association. "Their continued collaboration with us will allow our organization to get closer to our vision of creating a world without ALS."
"Our partnership with The ALS Association works because we are both guided by the same principles. For 40 years, BAYADA has followed the belief that if you do the right thing, positive outcomes will follow. When you have a partner that believes in the same philosophy, it is easy to find common solutions and meet our mutual needs. The trust between BAYADA and the very committed teams of professionals that we work with at The ALS Association ensures that our partnership has enduring value for both of us," said Dave Totaro, Chief Marketing and Government Affairs Officer of BAYADA Home Health Care.
