Bay Bread Founder Makes Lead Gift Toward Historic Advancement of Sterne School
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Pascal Rigo, the founder of Bay Bread and the iconic and omnipresent French bistro La Boulange, has made a historic gift to the Sterne School, San Francisco's only independent day school dedicated to middle and high schools with learning differences (LD).
Sterne School is in the midst of a pivotal expansion. To support the rising number of students with LD, and continue to serve as a leader in LD education, in January 2012 the Sterne School Board of Directors resolved to launch its first expansion Campaign in nearly 20 years: Great Minds, Thinking Differently.
The Campaign for Sterne School is the largest fundraising initiative in the school's history, with a working goal of $2.5M to be raised over a period of 2-3 years. Mr. Rigo, who has served on the Sterne School Board since May 2011 and has been instrumental in developing visions including a planned school-to-work jobs training program for LD students, led the fundraising with a groundbreaking challenge match of $500,000.
Great Minds, Thinking Differently is committed to advancing the school's mission - educating students with learning differences and providing them with the skills and strategies necessary to reach their academic potential, via three key pillars: facility, program, and resources. Since the launch of the campaign in January, milestones include: the acquisition of a new facility for the High School; renovations to the Middle School site; integration of 21st Century technology into all classrooms; a renewed emphasis on wellness and the brain-body connection; and a nationally recognized learning expert on staff.
In just seven short months, 21 lead donors -- including founding Head of School Valerie Anthony, 100% of Board and Campaign Committee members, and a small group of notable alumni families -- offered historic pledges towards Mr. Rigo's match. Thanks to their truly humbling generosity, in August 2012 Sterne surpassed the $500K challenge; to-date, fundraising stands at $1,006,000 and a "first million" milestone celebration will take place on December 13th.
Sterne School is a nationally recognized, WASC accredited, independent co-ed day school committed to educating students with learning differences. Through a hands-on and individualized program that focuses on academic and social development, Sterne is dedicated to educating its students for the challenges of life. Sterne School is located in San Francisco. For more information please visit www.sterneschool.org.
