Bavaria Welcomes President Barack Obama to the G7 Summit

MUNICH, June 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

On June 7th and 8th, 2015, Bavaria will play host to the world as the heads of state and government of the G7 nations meet at Elmau Castle to discuss major global issues. On the occasion, the Free State of Bavaria will greet its guest with a special treat: from Saturday, May 30th to Friday, June 5th, the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle will be illuminated in the national colors of a different one of the G7 members every day. Last night the USA had its turn.

Bavaria has always been big on hospitality, and this is the message of the "Welcome dahoam" ("Welcome home") projection marking the G7 summit. This illumination, which yesterday honored the United States, covers the entire front of Neuschwanstein Castle. For 30 minutes, the Stars and Stripes were resplendent on the façade of King Ludwig II's fairytale castle.

"We are very happy to welcome President Obama to Bavaria," said Marcel Huber, Bavarian State Minister. "We are convinced that a good future can only be achieved through cooperation with international partners. In projecting the national colors onto one of the Free State's best-known landmarks, our message is a cordial welcome to the heads of state and government of the G7 nations." Bavaria's Finance Minister Markus Söder, whose department is responsible for the management of Bavaria's castles, is happy with the display, saying: "Neuschwanstein is the world's most famous castle, making it an ideal companion to the G7 summit."

A new website http://www.welcomedahoam.com/en/ went online on May 26th, offering a unique look at Bavaria, its people, its future, its natural heritage and its traditions. "Bavaria is a country open to the world that sees diversity as a strength. This is what we will be showing in the days of the summit," said Minister Huber in closing.
