Bauer: Cochran Shares Blame For Taliban Release
WASHINGTON, June 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Campaign for American Values, a super PAC led by former presidential candidate Gary L. Bauer, jumped into the Mississippi Senate runoff election with a TV ad blasting Thad Cochran for being the first Republican senator to publicly endorse Barack Obama's nomination of Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense.
Bauer, chairman of the Campaign for American Values PAC, made the following statement: "Hagel has a terrible record on Israel and he personally signed off on the deal to release five Taliban leaders, including two wanted war criminals, from Guantanamo Bay. The overwhelming majority of Senate Republicans opposed Hagel because they knew he would be Obama's puppet. But not Thad Cochran. Mississippi conservatives can do better than Thad Cochran."
Last year, Cochran earned only a 60% score from the American Conservative Union, a 57% score from Heritage Action and 56% from Club for Growth. Cochran has also drawn major support from liberal former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Bauer continued, "My bottom line is this: With everything the Obama gang is doing to fundamentally transform America, we need fighters in the Senate, not status quo bench warmers."

Gary L. Bauer served in the Reagan Administration, as under secretary of education and as President Reagan's chief domestic policy advisor. He ran in the 2000 Republican presidential primaries. The Guardian called Bauer "one of the leading campaigners in the U.S. on pro-life and pro-traditional family issues."
