Bauer Applauds Kavanaugh's Nomination
"Candidate Trump promised to nominate judges in the mold of Antonin Scalia. With Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, President Trump has delivered on that promise."
WASHINGTON, July 10, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "President Trump has kept his promise to the American people with the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court," said American Values President Gary Bauer. "The president believes that judges should put aside their own opinions, interpret the Constitution as written and respect the will of the people. As a justice of the Supreme Court, I have no doubt that Brett Kavanaugh will follow the model of Justice Antonin Scalia and Neil Gorsuch."
Bauer continued: "Brett Kavanaugh is a well-respected and exceptionally well-qualified judge who believes the Constitution is the owner's manual of the Republic. He has served for more than a decade on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, often regarded as the nation's second most important court.
"While I applaud the president's selection of this mainstream conservative nominee, I was deeply disturbed to see the almost mob-like atmosphere at the Supreme Court last night. Various left-wing groups, progressive politicians and the liberal media are trying to turn every nomination into Armageddon.
"The American people deserve a civil and respectful debate. And they reject the left's outrageous demand that this nomination be delayed until after the election or until sometime next year. A recent NBC News poll found that 62% of Americans want the Senate to vote on the Kavanaugh nomination before November.
"I urge the Senate to quickly confirm Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court."
As head of the Citizens Committee to Confirm Clarence Thomas, Gary Bauer led a grassroots effort to confirm Justice Thomas during his contentious Senate hearings. The Guardian called Bauer "one of the leading campaigners in the U.S. on pro-life and pro-traditional family issues."
Bauer served all eight years in the Reagan Administration, as under secretary of education and as President Reagan's chief domestic policy advisor, later running in the 2000 Republican presidential primaries. He currently serves as president of American Values.
