Battle of the Brains in Sin City
Trivia Championships of North America, July 8-10, 2011, Las Vegas, Nevada USA
LAS VEGAS, March 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time, everyday trivia fans from across the continent will battle million-dollar minds -- and one another -- to answer the question: Who are the top trivia players of North America? Taking place in Las Vegas on July 8-10, the Trivia Championships of North America (TCONA) will recognize "mental medalists" who are both quick on the buzzer and full of facts.
Questions will be posed about popular culture (such as entertainment, media, sports, and lifestyle) and academic topics (including fine arts, history, science, and technology). Answers will be given in a variety of ways, from timed written tests to instant verbal responses. Similar to the variety of events in track and field, there are sprints and marathons, contestants who excel as individual specialists, and others who have prowess in many events or anchor a team.
Included in the field of competitors will be many who have won big on television game shows (including several that have won over a million!). Others will be champions of regional pub quizzes, trivia competitions on the Internet, and victors of academic challenges. This open event provides the opportunity for discovery of the next trivia mastermind, as those with previous accolades try to fend off the onslaught of knowledgeable but not yet as well-known contenders.
This event, the first of its kind in North America, will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 8-10, 2011, with the precise venue to be determined in part by the number of applications to compete that are received by May 1, 2011. TCONA will also serve as a meeting of the Game Show Congress and as a sanctioned event of the International Quizzing Association, which also oversees the European Quizzing Championships and World Quizzing Championship.
The website, preliminary schedule, and link for application to compete can be found at http://www.tcona.com. Questions and other inquiries may be directed in writing via email to [email protected], by fax to 303/957-5487, or via postal mail to TCONA, PO Box 3037, Boulder, CO 80307.
