SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Batteroo Inc., makers of the Batteroo Boost sleeve that extends the usable life of disposable batteries, today introduced its two new products, Batteroo ReBoost SmartShells and Batteroo ReBoost SmartSleeves. Many devices state "Do Not Use Rechargeable Batteries" warnings in their device manuals. This is because using many of the devices with rechargeable batteries could cause performance issues or could cause damage to the battery or the device itself. The SmartSleeve and SmartShell products contain patented pending smart electronics that for the first time will allow consumers to use their energy-smart rechargeable batteries in all their devices. Furthermore, ReBoost SmartShells allow consumers to never have to buy an expensive C or D battery again, by allowing them to use their AA and AAA rechargeable batteries in devices that use C and D batteries. The KickStarter campaign for both of these revolutionary products will be available starting July 17 at 2 AM and will feature an early-bird discount.
The company's first crowdfunding campaign for the original Batteroo Boost sleeves raised more than three times its initial goal in the first 24 hours, finishing with nearly $400,000 from around 7,400 backers. In addition to raising awareness of its new offering and providing backers with special pricing, Batteroo's latest campaign is a continuation of its efforts to reduce the billions of alkaline batteries that end up in landfills with as much as 80 percent of their energy still left in them.
Despite being hundreds of times more cost effective than disposable batteries overall, rechargeable batteries have had limited success in the market due to several factors. Using rechargeables in devices not designed for them creates issues and risks such as suboptimal performance as well as damage to the device, damage to the rechargeable battery, chemical leakage, and even fire. The performance issues are caused by the lower voltage of rechargeables vs. disposables. These hazards occur because the device discharges the battery below the recommended operating conditions. SmartShell and SmartSleeve technology safely boost, regulate, and monitor the battery's voltage to ensure proper operation.
The ReBoost SmartShells are crafted to be the exact same size and form factor as AA, C-cell and D-cell rechargeable battery types. The ReBoost allows up to three rechargeable AA batteries inside the D SmartShell, or up to four AAAs inside the C SmartShell, or a single AAA inside the AA SmartShell. Using the built in smart electronic circuitry, SmartShell delivers the appropriate voltage for optimal performance to power as well as monitors the device for safe operation of the battery. Consumers can use their existing AA/AAA rechargeables instead of higher-cost disposable C- and D-cell batteries to forgo unnecessary battery purchases, extend the useful life per charge, eliminate waste, and save money. The ReBoost SmartShell has been tested and proven effective with a wide range of common household gadgets, including children's toys, portable radios, boomboxes, flashlights, and other devices that typically use C and D batteries.
Batteroo ReBoost SmartShells and SmartSleeves have multiple benefits:
- ReBoost products have made it possible for people to use rechargeable batteries in place of alkaline in all applications. SmartBoost technology has intelligent circuitry to protect the battery from operating below the rechargeable battery manufacturer's suggested operating voltage to prevent damage to the rechargeable battery. ReBoost products also protect the rechargeable battery from deep discharge that can release harmful chemicals.
- ReBoost SmartShell significantly extends battery life per charge. For example, testing with a flashlight resulted in a useful life 20 times longer (useful life refers to how long it takes the flashlight to drop below 50 percent of its original intensity).
- Batteroo ReBoost technology significantly improves performance by adjusting the voltage level to allow the device to operate in peak performance. For example, in similar testing, the flashlight delivered higher, constant brightness lasting up to four times longer.
"Batteroo ReBoost SmartShell means never having to buy expensive C or D batteries again because now we can leverage the rechargeable AAs and AAAs many of us already own in their place," said Batteroo co-founder Bob Roohparvar Ph.D. "They are easy and safe to use, more convenient, and far more cost-effective than disposable batteries. And in using ReBoost, we can significantly reduce waste and minimize environmental impact as well."
Batteroo Corporation, winner of a Frost & Sullivan Award for Price/Performance Value Leadership, developed Batteroo Boost, its original battery voltage management technology, to harness the trapped but unused power of common household batteries and extend their functional life. Batteries often "read" as depleted or exhibit slow performance, even though as much as 80 percent of their power is left. By extending battery life, Batteroo Boost will save millions of batteries from ending up in landfills every year.
