SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- After reaching nearly 1,000 percent of its crowd-funding goal, Batteroo Inc. today announced that it is extending its Indiegogo campaign for another 30 days to allow people just learning about Batteriser, the reusable sleeve that slips over batteries and extracts their remaining energy to extend their lives, the opportunity to pre-order the technology and receive the perks of being an early funder.
Launched at the end of July, the Indiegogo campaign raised more than 300 percent of its initial goal in its first day. Since then, more than 5,000 people, from 93 different countries around the globe, have become contributors and referrers of the campaign, bringing the total amount raised to just under $300,000. Supporters of the crowd-funding campaign will receive Batteriser sleeves before they are available in stores and online this fall via perks that include multipacks of Batteriser sleeves for AA, AAA, C, and D-cell batteries.
Challenging that $14 billion disposable battery market is another reason Batteroo seeks crowdfunding. The company has already refused outside investment from a firm with ties to a large battery company because of concerns that its disruptive technology would be killed before ever reaching consumers.
A significant number of disposable batteries are thrown away with a compelling portion of their energy still in them, unused. Stainless steel and less than one-tenth of a millimeter thin, Batteriser uses micro-circuitry to tap into a battery's remaining energy that otherwise would have been thrown away. Batteriser works with new and most used disposable batteries, extending their life and improving their performance all the while helping consumers save money too. Each year, there are billions of batteries that end up in landfills with as little as 10-20 percent of their energy consumed. Of the annual consumption of 15 billion disposable batteries globally, it is estimated that only 2 percent are recycled. If one was to line up all these batteries back to back, it would make a line of batteries that would wrap around the earth more than 18 times, Every Year!
"Our Indiegogo campaign has been an incredible outreach program for us to extend the message of Batteriser and its ability to reduce the negative impact of disposable batteries ending up in landfills before the total useful energy they contain has been fully realized," said Batteroo CEO and cofounder Bob Roohparvar Ph.D. "Because of it phenomenal success, we felt compelled to extend the opportunity for people to participate in the campaign by another 30 days. This extension will allow consumers to save even more while saving the planet by getting in on funder-preferred pricing before Batteriser becomes commercially available by the end of the year."
