BATS Wireless Announces Long-Range High Capacity Data Link for Seismic Vessels in the Gulf of Mexico
INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BATS Wireless (BATS), the world's leading innovator of wireless stabilization, optimization, and tracking systems today announced the establishment of a 54 kilometer link between two mobile seismic scanning vessels in the Gulf of Mexico.
BATS' connectivity is optimal for nomadic seismic vessels, due to its ability to locate, lock and track available signals, providing offshore operators with the reliable, high-capacity network needed to efficiently transmit critical communications and data during deployments.
The vessels, which work to scan the ocean floor to collect seismic data for offshore operators, frequently travel in groups in order to obtain a more accurate and detailed image. In order to effectively transmit data amongst the fleet, each ship required BATS systems to establish a reliable, long-range, high-bandwidth network.
Over the ongoing deployment, the operator has acquired over 40 systems for use in a triple-link configuration. Although the ships are typically 14 km apart in the field, the BATS systems were able to establish multiple, intra-fleet broadband links; including distances of more than 50 kilometers between vessels.
The BATS systems have exceeded expectations and consistently provided critical communications and production data for this leader of seismic exploration in the oil and gas community.
"We are pleased to hear about the long-range, high-capacity broadband link provided to our client in the Gulf of Mexico," says Phillip Cramer, VP Sales & Marketing, BATS. "The capabilities of our systems have given a new option to the Energy market: the ability for offshore operators to easily access the flexible networks and reliable speeds necessary for production, voice, video and crew comfort solutions."
