BATS Wireless Announces First Successful Deployment and Test of High-Capacity FSO Communications Link
INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BATS Wireless (BATS), the world's leading innovator of wireless stabilization, optimization, and tracking systems today announced that their ruggedized, self-optimizing, wireless nodes were used in the first successfully deployed and tested link for PETRONAS' phase one Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) communications network off the coast of Malaysia, in the South China Sea.
BATS provided an adaptive wireless network utilizing four, spatial and frequency diverse BTS-90 antenna systems paired with NEC iPasolink 400 radios, which delivered both data and communications for the Dulang Bravo platform and FSO Puteri Dulang vessel operated by PETRONAS. The assets were able to establish and maintain up to 200 Mbit/s connection throughout rigorous, motion testing.
BATS' industry-leading proprietary, stabilized microwave systems, which can be integrated with almost any radio, are used to form a high-speed, high-capacity network that can offer up to multi-gigabit connectivity speeds. The ruggedized, marine-grade BATS systems deliver a wealth of cutting-edge wireless communications and data opportunities to FPSO, FSO and drillship operators, enabling end users access to faster, more adaptive communications networks – already providing major energy producers with both enhanced production capabilities and crew comfort.
"We are pleased to be tasked with developing a reliable, high-speed network that will deliver critical communications to offshore vessel operators," says Phillip Cramer, V.P. Sales & Marketing, BATS Wireless. "The need for high-capacity FPSO communications capabilities is important, as it not only increases productivity, but also dramatically improves efficiency, safety, and delivers a new array of data possibilities offshore."
