Basis was founded on a belief that the key to encouraging people to play a more active role in their health and wellness lies in combining comprehensive information about their body, with easy-to-understand insights and a motivating experience. As a result, the Basis B1 band is the world's first continuous heart rate and health tracker that works with a web-based personal dashboard to give you a full picture of your health and wellness. The wrist-worn device records your heart rate, calories burned, levels of activity and sleep patterns 24/7. You can also connect with your social networks online to stay motivated.
"We believe that heart rate provides the foundation to understanding health, yet until now, it hasn't been possible to collect this information on a 24/7 basis in our daily lives," said Jef Holove, Basis CEO. "The technical centerpiece of the Basis band is an optical engine that directs light into the skin to 'see' actual blood flow, with no effort required on the part of the wearer," said Holove.
Basis' optical engine is complemented by four other sensors including: two heat sensors that track skin and ambient temperature changes; a three-axis accelerometer that records movement and activity; and galvanic skin response sensors that helps track the intensity of activity by measuring sweat levels.
The Best of Innovations awards were judged by a panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media, to honor cutting edge design in consumer electronics across 32 product categories. Judges examined the unique features, intended use and function, and overall engineering and design qualities.
Basis will be showcasing the Basis B1 band at the 2012 CES in Las Vegas in January.
