BASF Podcast: Basotect: An Intelligent Foam With Many Applications
LUDWIGSHAFEN, Germany, March 17, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- In this podcast you will learn how chemical innovations from BASF help to develop a versatile high-tech foam.
Basotect is an intelligent foam which, thanks to its versatility, can be used in simple as well as technically demanding applications. It can be used for cleaning hard surfaces, as a sound absorber in sound studios or as thermal and sound insulation in the aerospace industry. The material that Basotect is made from is called melamine resin. That's one of the hardest plastics there is. The researchers at BASF have managed to fabricate from this base material a foam that's light and flexible even though the source material is extremely brittle.
BASF Corporate Communications started a regular bilingual Podcast service in April 2007 to report on BASF's innovations and research and development activities in an easy-to-understand, informative and entertaining way. After the current episode, the publication of "Chemistry of Innovations" will be suspended and the BASF Podcast Service will be developed further. In the course of this year, there will be a new format with more thrilling and interesting stories from the world of chemistry.
