Barrow Conducting Educational Webinar for International Doctors
First-ever Barrow Spanish Language Neurosurgery Webinar to be Viewed Live
PHOENIX, May 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Internationally recognized Barrow Neurological Institute will be conducting its first-ever medical webinar to Spanish speaking doctors in Latin and South America. As part of the 38th Annual Barrow Neurosurgery Symposium the May 17th webinar will instruct Spanish-speaking doctors specializing in neurological patient care. The topic of this ground-breaking webinar will be brain aneurysms.
"For several years Barrow has offered training for physicians from all over the world. We are proud to continue this tradition and bring the Barrow Symposium to neurosurgeons in their home country," said Robert Spetzler, MD one of the presenters and director of the Barrow Neurological Institute. Dr. Spetzler has conducted more brain aneurysm surgeries than any surgeon in the world.
Research shows that ruptured aneurysms are more common in Hispanics than individuals of European descent. Also, Hispanics are 10 percent more likely to have brain aneurysms if there is a history of the condition in their immediate family.
A brain aneurysm is caused when a weak area of an artery supplying the brain with blood expands. A rupture of this artery causes bleeding in the area between the brain and the surrounding membrane. This may cause brain damage or death. Most patients do not experience symptoms prior to a brain aneurysms, but in some cases a person will develop severe headaches, double vision, seizures, or vomiting.
Barrow is using cutting edge technology and state of the art equipment to advance surgery procedures. The webinar will educate doctors from Latin and South America in advanced diagnostic testing and treatment in cerebrovascular surgery.
St. Joseph's Barrow Neurological Institute is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2012.
