BELLEVILLE, Ill., Dec. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As of Monday November 30th -the last day to file petitions, C.J. Baricevic was the only Democrat to file the necessary number of petition signatures to run for the 12th CD seat. Baricevic filed nearly 3,000 signatures from voters throughout the District. Baricevic filed on November 23rd, the first day candidates could file; no Democrat filed against Baricevic.
Baricevic issued the following statement:
"With humility and gratitude, I am honored that a united Democratic party in the 12th congressional district will support my candidacy for Congress. My campaign is about the need to get things in done in Washington to improve the lives of middle class and working families. Too many hard working families are financially struggling. They deserve a Congressman who will stand up for them.
Like me, they are outraged that within a few short months after taking office, Mike Bost turned his back on the working men and women of Illinois. Communities in our part of Illinois have been brought to their knees, suffering massive job loss and dislocation, based on bad trade deals. Mike Bost knows that full well, but went ahead and chose to support the Trans Pacific Partnership all the same. He had a chance to stand up to China for their currency manipulation and unfair trade practices, but instead he sold out to powerful interests on Wall Street and K Street.
"Whether it's creating jobs, making college more affordable, or protecting Social Security and Medicare, the people of this district deserve a congressman committed to working for them, not carrying water for powerful Washington interests. I look forward to a vigorous debate with Congressman Bost. I believe that people throughout this district agree with me that we need an economy that grows from the middle class up, not from the top down."
