FORT WORTH, Texas, Aug. 10, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Barclays US Consumer Bank announced today a $250,000 donation to the Wings Foundation, a volunteer-led nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to American Airlines flight attendants during times of crisis.
This contribution is the largest of many Barclays has made to the Wings Foundation since the 2016 launch of the AAdvantage® Aviator® Red World Elite Mastercard®. The card is offered exclusively on-board American Airlines flights and in airports.
"Putting our partners first is a core tenet of the Barclays business model and American flight attendants play an essential role in our partnership with American Airlines," said Denny Nealon, CEO, Barclays US Consumer Bank. "These flight attendants work tirelessly on the front lines every day to care for our customers and promote the AAdvantage® Aviator® brand. We are proud to partner with them, grateful for all they do to keep the flying public safe, and thrilled for the opportunity to support them in times of need."
The Wings Foundation was founded in 1989 and has expanded greatly over the years to include financial support to flight attendants impacted by natural disasters or serious illness and injury. In the past 15 years, Wings has given more than $10.6 million in grants to 1,368 recipients.
"Our goal at Wings [Foundation] is to provide qualifying flight attendants a 'bridge' of reasonable living expenses so they may return to work after an illness or injury which has kept them from receiving a paycheck," said Kazumi Chapa, national president, Wings Foundation. "This generous donation could not come at a better time for many of our team members in need. We are deeply thankful for Barclays and their proven record of investing in and caring for our flight attendants."
