LONDON, September 7, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In a video interview with online financial broadcaster www.cantos.com, John Varley confirms he is to step down as Barclays Group CEO on 31st March 2011. He will be succeeded in the role by Bob Diamond, the current President of Barclays.
Speaking in the same interview, Barclays Chairman Marcus Agius gives Mr Varley huge credit for his skill at steering the Bank through the credit crisis. "He was cool, he was courageous, and he was very, very creative."
Mr Diamond, who is described as a co-architect for the bank's strategy, says: "This is about continuing to execute day in and day out and deliver for our clients and customers on the strategy that we have."
