SAN ANTONIO, May 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Bar Louie, a neighborhood bar and eatery located at the Villages at Stone Oak, held four days of fundraising events from May 1 through May 4 in honor of its one-year anniversary. During the four-day span, Bar Louie agreed to donate all net sales as well as any money raised at its firefighter date auction to the Bexar County Emergency Scene Rehab.
"While it was our original intent to donate our contribution to the San Antonio Fire Department, there were unforeseen circumstances that forced us to shift our donation to Bexar County Emergency Scene Rehab," Bar Louie General Manager Richard Gerber said. "We're elated these funds are going to such an amazing organization that provides service to emergency fire and response teams across San Antonio and surrounding areas."
Bexar County Emergency Scene Rehab (BCESR) is a non-profit volunteer organization that responds to emergency scenes and offers rehabilitation services to firefighters and other emergency response personnel. This extends to, but is not limited to medical and exhaustion treatment, hydration, shelter and food supplies needed to carry out the job. Volunteers are comprised of off-duty and retired emergency medical technicians (EMTs), firefighters, police officers and local civilians.
"We are beyond overwhelmed by the generous donation of Bar Louie," BCESR founder and local EMT, Robert Briggs said. "The number of people they are impacting for years to come is in the tens of thousands."
The majority of funds will be used to refurbish an existing bus, as well as purchase a new bus for their response fleet. "With the expansion of our fleet, we will now be able to respond to up to five scenes at any given time," Briggs said. Any additional remaining funds will be put towards supplies and education materials at their headquarters, where they hold free CPR classes and other fire safety classes.
"The most important thing to us is making sure the local community in San Antonio knows how much we appreciate their support over the last year," Gerber said. "Charity is a huge part of who we are and we know that BCESR will ensure the funds are put to good use and benefit the firefighters that support our local communities."
