Banner Baywood earns re-certification for Disease-Specific Care in hip fracture management

MESA, Ariz., Aug. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --The Joint Commission recently re-certified and awarded Banner Baywood Medical Center its Gold Seal of Approval for meeting national standards for health care quality and safety for Disease-Specific Care in hip fracture management.

Older adults can prevent hip fractures, but unfortunately many of them are prone to falls that result in these injuries. As a result, hip fractures can cause serious harm, and illness. As incidence of hip fractures increases, Banner Baywood focused on becoming one of the first hospitals in the state of Arizona to receive its certification last year to better serve the aging population.

This year, the hospital underwent a rigorous onsite survey, passing all criteria for re-certification. According to the Joint Commission, a certified facility must provide continuous, safe, high quality care, treatment and services by identifying opportunities for improvement processes. Banner Baywood's Hip Fracture program showed a faster process for patients being taken to surgery, decreased length of stay and fewer readmissions. Banner Medical Group orthopedic surgeons in partnership with leaders from within the hospital have been the biggest supporters of the program.
