Banking and Securities Department Announces New Publication to Help Consumers with Banking Questions
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 13, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Department of Banking and Securities today announced the publication of "Banking Basics," a new financial information brochure that will help consumers with basic questions about the various types of checking and savings accounts available at banks and credit unions.
"As the financial services marketplace becomes more complex and global, consumers need clear and easy-to-understand information to help them make good decisions with their money," Secretary of Banking and Securities Robin L. Wiessmann said. "As consumers of any age consider where to deposit their money safely, this new publication will help them ask the right questions and guide them through the answers.'"
"Banking Basics" addresses several issues, including:
- Types of deposit accounts;
- Questions to ask yourself before opening a deposit account;
- How to keep track of money in your account; and
- Where to go for help or to file a complaint regarding your account.

The department's Financial Services for Consumers and Business staff offer non-commercial, educational presentations on basic and advanced investment principles, banking basics, getting help with financial issues, issues for senior citizens such as annuities and reverse mortgages, as well as ways consumers can protect themselves and their money from investment fraud.
