Banking and Securities Department Announces Efforts to Raise Awareness of Elder Financial Abuse
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 1, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As part of an effort to help raise public awareness of the issue of elder financial abuse, the Department of Banking and Securities will be taking part in several public activities surrounding World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15.
Senior Deputy Chief Counsel Scott A. Lane and Consumer Outreach Liaison Katrina F. Boyer will be attending several public events in Pennsylvania to address ways that senior citizens can protect themselves from financial fraud as well as make educated decisions about their money.
- On Tuesday, June 2, Boyer will give a presentation on reverse mortgages at 9:00 a.m. at St. Vincent's Parish Hall, 101 St. Vincent Drive in Milford as part of Pike County's Elder Justice Day celebration.
- On Wednesday, June 3, Boyer will participate in the Adams County Spring Fling Senior Expo from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Gettysburg College's Bream Wright Hauser Field House on Lincoln Avenue in Gettysburg.
- On Wednesday, June 17, Lane will address an Elder Abuse Awareness community event at Butler County Community College in Butler. This event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the college's Founders Hall.
- On Wednesday, June 17, Boyer will give a presentation on banking basics at 10:30 a.m. at the Chestnut Hill Senior Center, 1919 Route 209 in Brodheadsville.
- On Thursday, June 18, Lane will address an Elder Abuse Awareness community event in Edinburgh. This event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Gatherings Banquet and Event Center, 2552 Benjamin Franklin Highway.
- On Thursday, June 18, Boyer will give a presentation on reverse mortgages at 11:30 a.m. at the Northern Wayne County Senior Center, 1663 Crosstown Highway in Lakewood.
- On Friday, June 19, Boyer will participate in Rep. Mary Jo Daley's Senior Expo from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in Plymouth Meeting.
