SYRACUSE, N.Y., Jan. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Bankers Healthcare Group, the leading provider of financial solutions for healthcare professionals, appointed Mark Schmidt as Chief Regulatory Relations Officer. This new position enables BHG to assist its key strategic partners with regulatory and compliance matters, in addition to enhancing BHG's risk management and reporting.
"Mark brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge to BHG. His role sets us apart from the competition and clearly evidences our commitment to strong risk management," said BHG CEO Al Crawford. "Very few senior regulators have Mark's experience—a combination of regulatory operations and policy with private sector consulting. Having Mark on our team is another key differentiator of BHG from other nonbank financial lenders."
Schmidt most recently spent seven years as a Managing Director at Promontory Financial Group, a premier financial services consulting firm headquartered in the nation's capital. Prior to that, he led a successful 33-year career in bank supervision with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), where his most recent roles were Head of Bank Supervision Policy in Washington, D.C., and Regional Director of the Atlanta region, which included seven states.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to be part of the BHG team," Schmidt said. "There are few things in the financial space as important as regulatory compliance. With the addition of this role, BHG stands at the forefront of its industry."
Schmidt spent his entire FDIC career in the bank supervision area. During that time, he also served as a consultant for the International Monetary Fund. He participated in the 1996 Legis Fellowship Program, working for the Banking and Financial Services Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives and serving on the Basel Committee's Standards Implementation Group.
Schmidt earned an MBA in finance from the University of Missouri and a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University.
