Bandit's Boileau Holds Off Ball, Morgan at packed Hawkeye Downs to Take $10,00 Home from the $50,000 Purse
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, July 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Mike Morgan (#88) gave it his all after the collision with Trevor Kruckeberg (#63) on Saturday, but with that Tommy Boileau (#16) gained the lead taking the win.
Boileau won his first feature win of the Minimizer Bandit Big Rig Series event at Hawkeye Downs Speedway, giving the crowd something to cheer for the last couple of laps of the 25-lap A-main.
"It's my first season racing on ovals, I've always run road courses. Finally got a win here on the oval, glad to do it at this awesome track down here in Iowa," said Boileau.
The last 3 laps were action packed with Morgan in the lead and the $10,000 in hand until he ran into lap traffic and collided with Trevor Kruckeberg, pushing him to the back of the pack. With three laps left to go Boileau, takes the lead and takes first place and the $10,000. Despite his setback, Morgan still managed to race his way from the back to third and take home $5,000.
"It was fun seeing Tommy Boileau take home his feature win of the Bandit Series," Brian Madsen said. " You never know how it'll turn out, even the last lap can take you from first to last. Every Bandit has a shot at taking home the $10,000."
With Boileau taking the win on Saturday, he passes Justin Ball (#17) for third in the points standings. Ricky Rude (#14) still remains in first with 2513.5 points, But Morgan coming close in second only 60 points behind Rude.
