The Nike Takeover; and what now for Reebok??
COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- This week in American sports there has been a seismic commercial shift taking place. Yes, Reebok is out and Nike is in for one of the most lucrative sports licenses in the world.
Let me quote a news source; "Reebok International Ltd. has been stripped of its title as the official uniform supplier for the National Football League, a major loss for the Canton sneaker and apparel company that's estimated to be worth as much as $500 million."
Of course Nike's shares hit an all time high with the announcement, considering that the deal had represented quite a few pennies for Reebok and parent company adidas in the past.
But that is not all, because New Era became the official hat maker for the next 5 years. This is a brilliant move as the NFL can leverage the iconic and innovative status that New Era has to create more sales of apparel.
If the sky is the limit for the NFL, is the floor the new home of Reebok?
