BalletNext Returns with 2018 Season at New York Live Arts
Artistic Director Michele Wiles Returns to the Stage and Creates Four New Works after Year-Long Hiatus
NEW YORK, Jan. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- BalletNext, the acclaimed contemporary ballet company founded by former American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Michele Wiles, returns for its 2018 season at New York Live Arts, March 6-10, 2018. Purchase Tickets Here.
Wiles and company have been on hiatus as she welcomed the birth of her first child in 2017. Through this period of self-exploration in both her personal and professional life, Wiles has returned with a renewed creative focus. The 2018 season features four new works choreographed by Wiles, along with her return to performing on stage.
Vibrer fuses classical ballet with the improvisational flow of jazz, and continues Wiles' partnership with Grammy nominated jazz trumpeter Tom Harrell who will perform live with Danny Grissett on piano.
Follin is a world premiere melding sign language with ballet. Co-choreographed and performed with deaf dancer Bailey Anne Vincent, Follin utilizes intricate hand movements of American Sign Language and will also feature a sign language interpreter on stage.
Experience is a duet exploring the possibilities of female partnering. A work that features the vigorous physicality of the female body.
The Pianist, set to Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto in D minor places five female dancers in a playful comedy suggestive of a modernized version of Edgar Degas' masterpieces depicting ballerinas.
