BallenIsles Country Club Hosts USTA Girls 12 National Clay Court Championships July 12 - 18, 2015
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., July 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- 128 of the nation's top players in the Girls 12 and under division have begun their quest this week for a national title and the coveted Gold Ball. Matches are under way at BallenIsles Country Club's state-of-the-art Sports Complex and also for the first few days at the Palm Beach Gardens City Complex.
In First round matches Charlotte Owensby from Boca Raton, the #1 seed came through in both her singles and doubles matches. Maria Rizzolo from Jupiter the #12 seed also played a solid first round match to advance to the second round of the main draw.
Play continues through Saturday at BallenIsles Country Club which will also host the finals on Saturday, July 18 beginning at 8 a.m. Matches will also be played through Wednesday at the Palm Beach Gardens City Complex.
Tournament Director and Director of Tennis at BallenIsles Country Club Trish Faulkner said, "I'm amazed at the quality of play and the intensity displayed by these young players who have so much talent and passion for the sport. Winners of this event usually go on to other national titles and then on to the next level which is the women's tour."
The event is sponsored by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, Joanne Green, DDS and Howard Green, MD and Richard Krathen, MD from Palm Beach Dermatology Associates.
"All of these players must be nationally ranked and very highly regarded and motivated to even gain entry into this tournament", said Faulkner. Previous winners of this event have gone on to be nationally ranked WTA tour players as it is judged to be the first stepping stone on the way to winning age division national tournaments.
Matches start each day at 8 a.m. at BallenIsles and at 8:30 a.m. at the Gardens through Wednesday, then all the action is held at BallenIsles. Spectators are welcome but must contact the BallenIsles Tennis Shop at (561)-625-5707 to gain entry to the Club.
