"This house has absolutely everything one can imagine needing to live a luxurious Hawaiian lifestyle. It's completely private, the landscaping is immaculate and each of the five bedrooms is a master suite, four of which have ocean views, which is rare," Molfino stated. "The property is also surrounded on three sides by the members-only Ke'olu Golf Course. It truly is a one-of-a-kind home that requires an equally unique buyer on auction day. We look forward to March 18th and encourage all interested parties to get involved now."
The seller, Wayne Lau, who was a bidder when Concierge sold Cher's Hualalai home in 2010, has been following the firm ever since. "I was impressed by Concierge`s ability to reach such a large audience of suitable buyers," stated Lau. "Living in the Far East and Geneva, I am also familiar with how the finest pieces of art are sold through global auctions. It seems natural to sell the finest of homes in the same way."
Boasting five bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms and ceilings adorned with merbau, an exotic and rare wood used resemble conventional framed ceilings found in Southeast Asia, Hale Ku Mana, located at 72–130 Hokuloa, has carefully crafted and flowing indoor and outdoor living spaces that exude tranquility and give the property its tropical paradise feeling. The home's palette of finishes is based on natural materials primarily from Indonesia, and its stones were sourced and supplied through Richard North-Lewis, a world-renowned artist and designer. Luxurious touches include a gourmet chef's kitchen with a built-in espresso machine, a butler's kitchen with a separate entrance and bedrooms with indoor/outdoor bathrooms, privacy walls and ocean and mountain views. Three of the four guest bedrooms have their own lanai. The fourth guest room can be used as a game room or as an additional bedroom.
The master suite includes the master bedroom, an office and a master bathroom that Forbes Magazine once called "one of the most amazing bathrooms in the country." Encompassing 1,000 square feet and embracing a Balinese theme, two sides of the bathroom lead to a garden with native Hawaiian plants and privacy walls. In the center of the room is a water feature flanked by black temple stone waterfalls with floating steps carved from light-colored stone that lead to a large stone tub. Supported by steel beams covered with merbau wood, two floating vanities, each with its own sink and a large mirror, give the illusion of being suspended in air. A shower next to the vanities is open on three sides, with a black temple stone wall. The only enclosed spaces within the master bathroom are the water closet and a walk-in closet that runs the entire length of the bathroom.
Hale Ku Mana features more than 31 varieties of native rare and endangered Hawaiian plants, several of which were specifically chosen because they are Kumulipo plants, meaning they are mentioned in the Hawaiian creation chant. There are also six ponds, an outdoor grill, a lanai with floating pathways made of Indonesian stone from Southeast Asian waterways, an integrated spa and a stone-tiled saltwater infinity pool offering unrivaled views of the ocean and the island of Maui.
"The Hualalai Resort is without a doubt one of the most breathtaking communities in Hawaii, and Hale Ku Mana is one it of its crown jewels. Ever since our initial sales in Hualalai in 2009 and 2010, we have watched this property with awe through its planning and construction," stated Laura Brady, President of Concierge Auctions. "Hawaii has fully embraced our auction process for the transfer of many of the state's most premier properties, as evidenced by our 24 sales on the islands in just the last few years. With two other auctions upcoming in March — another on Kona and one on Oahu — we are excited to have an assortment of opportunities for buyers to choose from."
Kona, which means "leeward" in Hawaiian for its location along the sunny west coast of Hawaii's Big Island, enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year. Located on the Big Island's renowned "gold coast," so named for the exquisite luxury resorts and multi-million dollar homes scattered along its 40 miles of pristine oceanfront, Hualalai Resort is conveniently situated just 10 minutes north of the Kona International Airport and 15 miles north of the city of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. It's 'Ulu Ocean Grill and Sushi Lounge was recently named by OpenTable as one of the Top 100 most romantic restaurants in the country.
