Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force Applauds Gabriel Gomez Candidate for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts for Supporting U.S. Balanced Budget Amendment
LEESBURG, Va., May 14, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Gabriel Gomez candidate for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts spoke today in favor of a U.S. Balanced Budget Amendment. Gomez stated, "Massachusetts has to balance its budget, and so does every family and every business. The federal government should do the same."
The Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force applauds Gabriel Gomez for supporting the Balanced Budget Amendment, it's clear he is serious about tackling our debt and spending problem in Washington D.C.
David Biddulph, Co-founder of the BBA Task Force stated, "With the unprecedented spending in Washington, we are facing challenges far greater than experienced in our Nation's history. Our nation is suffering from spending addiction at a rate of over two million dollars per second, and has amassed a staggering 16 trillion dollar national debt, which continues to soar."
The Congressional Budget Office (C.B.O) recently estimated that in ten years, under current law, the United States would be $26 trillion in debt versus $16 trillion today and the interest on the debt alone would be $857 billion or about $10,000 per income tax paying household.
Scott Rogers, Executive Director of the BBA Task Force noted, "As a nation we have reached the proverbial fork in the road. One road leads to the economic prosperity such as that enjoyed by Switzerland, while the other leads to debt, default, and economic depression as faced by Greece."
The good news is that a strong BBA could, according to the C.B.O., pay off the debt, quadruple family incomes and allow for a 30% across the board tax cuts by 2083.
In November of 2011, Gabriel Gomez's opponent in the special election for U.S. Senate, Congressman Edward Markey voted against a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This common sense amendment would have required a three-fifths roll call vote of each chamber for the congress to spend more than it took in and to increase the public debt limit. It also authorized waivers when a declaration of war is in effect or under other specified circumstances involving military conflict.
Gomez has stated, "Once elected, I will support and vote to send a balanced budget amendment to the states for ratification. If Congress fails to act, I will support the right of the states to call a convention for proposing amendments under Article V of the U.S. Constitution to solely consider a balanced budget amendment."
The Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force is a non-profit, non-partisan organization whose mission is to educate state legislators on their Constitutional power to propose and ratify a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that aims to quadruple family income and pay off the nation's debt within four generations.
