BakerHostetler To Add 30-Lawyer Team in Atlanta
Addition of Former McKenna Long & Aldridge Attorneys Catapults Atlanta Office to Full-Service Capabilities
ATLANTA, May 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- BakerHostetler announces the addition of a 30-lawyer healthcare, corporate, real estate, and litigation team to its Atlanta office. The group of lawyers from McKenna Long & Aldridge will be joining BakerHostetler on June 1 following a vote of the BakerHostetler partnership. The incoming team includes 25 attorneys from that firm's Healthcare practice, which increases BakerHostetler's national Healthcare Industry team to more than 80 attorneys. The incoming Healthcare team includes litigation, real estate, transactional, and regulatory attorneys. Also joining the firm are five corporate attorneys (two of the attorneys, corporate partners David Brown and Clayton Coley, were announced by BakerHostetler on May 7).
"The healthcare industry is experiencing an unprecedented shift in the way it delivers services and conducts business," said BakerHostetler Chairman Steven Kestner. "BakerHostetler's growth in the healthcare sector is part of our firm's strategic direction that is aligned to the needs of our clients. Our expansion in this major national business market continues to demonstrate that we are committed to providing comprehensive counsel to the companies we serve."
The former McKenna Long & Aldridge healthcare attorneys will join BakerHostetler's 56-member Healthcare Industry team located in offices throughout the United States. Jim Rawls will become a Co-leader of the firm's Healthcare Industry team when he joins. This expansion in the Atlanta market follows the April announcement that leading West Coast healthcare attorneys Noah Rosenberg, Lenard Pick, and Lauren Wilson joined BakerHostetler's Los Angeles office. The firm's clients include hospitals and health systems, suppliers and pharmaceutical companies, long-term care, home health, hospice and specialized niche providers, as well as venture capital entities operating in the healthcare sector.
The incoming team includes the first corporate lawyers in BakerHostetler's Atlanta office. They have experience with a diverse set of corporate and finance transactions, which will bolster the offerings of the firm's national corporate team. BakerHostetler's nearly 200 business and corporate attorneys across the firm represent clients in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Latin America in a broad range of industries, including communications, media, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, real estate, hospitality, technology, and insurance.
Jim Rawls and Derek Bauer also represent national and local broadcasters and publishers in high-profile media and First Amendment cases. They will be a strong addition to BakerHostetler's national media practice with its nearly 100 year history of precedent-setting work in the media industry.
BakerHostetler established its Atlanta office in 2014 when it combined with IP boutique firm Woodcock Washburn. With its most recent addition, BakerHostetler is making a significant investment in the Atlanta market and is substantially increasing the size of its national Healthcare Industry team to more than 80 attorneys. This addition positions BakerHostetler with a now full-service office in a key national market.
Partner-In-Charge Christopher Arena manages the Atlanta office. "This is a significant move in the Atlanta legal market and for our firm – the Atlanta office is now a full-service general practice location offering healthcare, corporate, real estate, and litigation services in conjunction with our traditional IP presence," said Arena.
"BakerHostetler is rapidly becoming the firm with which companies and lawyers affiliate for strategic healthcare initiatives," said Christopher Swift, Co-leader of the Healthcare Industry team. "The attorneys from McKenna Long's healthcare practice continue to build our ability to extend a wide range of services to clients in the healthcare sector. These attorneys will help our team remain nimble to the benefit of our clients as they face ongoing changes in this highly regulated industry."
"Our firm continually assesses the marketplace against what our clients tell us are their most pressing needs," said Kestner. "The addition of this group allows us to expand in a major market where two years ago we had no presence. This is a key component of our growth strategy."
BakerHostetler also possesses a unique, national presence in the academic medical center, children's hospital, and healthcare entity data breach sectors. The team includes former senior managers with hospitals and health centers, research centers, health maintenance organizations, and third-party purchasers of healthcare. The Healthcare Industry team combines these unique perspectives with attorneys across multiple practice areas impacting healthcare entities, including corporate, contract, managed care, antitrust, employment and labor, data breach and compliance, litigation, white collar, business, tax, government policy, and intellectual property.
