Baker Hughes Announces April 2013 Rig Counts
HOUSTON, May 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Baker Hughes Incorporated (NYSE:BHI) announced today that the international rig count for April 2013 was 1,301, up 33 from the 1,268 counted in March 2013, and up 123 from the 1,178 counted in April 2012. The international offshore rig count for April 2013 was 331, up 15 from the 316 counted in March 2013 and up 32 from the 299 counted in April 2012.
The average U.S. rig count for April 2013 was 1,755, down 1 from the 1,756 counted in March 2013 and down 206 from the 1,961 counted in April 2012. The average Canadian rig count for April 2013 was 153, down 311 from the 464 counted in March 2013 and down 5 from the 158 counted in April 2012.
The worldwide rig count for April 2013 was 3,209, down 279 from the 3,488 counted in March 2013 and down 88 from the 3,297 counted in April 2012.

Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity. Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
North American rig count data is scheduled to be released at noon central time on the last working day of each week.
