Bahrain's F1 Race and Promotional Events Create More Than 3,000 Jobs
MANAMA, Bahrain, March 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix, along with Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) events throughout the year, will create more than 3,000 jobs and boost the country's economy, BIC CEO Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa announced yesterday.
"Be it for the employment or for the good of business, there is something in it for everybody," he said.
Bahrain's F1 race alone is expected to significantly strengthen the tourism industry, with hotels already reporting full occupancy rates and Bahrain-based Gulf Air providing more than 50 percent of incoming flights.
"We are, this time around, hoping to generate around $500 million of direct and indirect benefits for the Bahrain economy," he said.
Beyond the Grand Prix, the BIC, which hosts the country's F1 race, has more than 200 events scheduled for this year.
"We are, naturally, proud to host the Formula One race, but we have ensured the BIC remains busy throughout the year with a host of other events lined up," he said.
The yearlong events guarantee that BIC employment opportunities for Bahrainis continue well past the country's annual F1 race.
Bahrain's upcoming Grand Prix race is scheduled for the weekend of April 20-22.
