Bahrain National Commission Advances Independent Commission's Recommendations
MANAMA, Bahrain, Jan. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, the National Commission, tasked with overseeing the implementation of Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) recommendations, prioritized more BICI suggestions in an effort to speed up the implementation process.
Among the ideas fast-tracked is an expansion of training for security forces, as well as an increase in private sector reinstatements. The commission will also begin the development of a national reconciliation program for groups that feel deprived of political, social or economic equality.
"International experts will be enlisted to ensure swift progress is made according to international human rights standards," National Commission and Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh said.
The Commission welcomed the National Compensation Fund, which was passed by the Shura Council this week to aid those affected by the unrest, and further challenged the team to expedite payments. The commission also commended steps taken by the government to begin National Security Agency training and to reinstate more private sector employees.
"The government has also detailed significant progress made on consultations with the private sector on reinstating remaining dismissed workers," Al Saleh said. "Further announcements on reinstatements are expected shortly."
