Bahrain Authorizes $3.97 Billion in Industrial Projects

MANAMA, Bahrain, Aug. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More than BD1.5 billion, or $3.97 billion, in industrial projects have been approved by Bahrain's government since 2009, Industry and Commerce Minister Dr. Hassan Fakhro said Friday.

Approximately 300 of 546 projects, valued at BD942 million, have been granted licenses and are currently underway. In 2009, 127 of these projects were given final approval, while 140 were given final status in 2010.

In the first quarter of this year alone, Bahrain approved 51 industrial projects and handed out 33 industrial licenses worth BD110 million.

Earlier this week, Dr. Fakhro thanked the private sector for its role in helping Bahrain's economy rebound and for its contribution to the industry's growth.
