BadVR Awarded Magic Leap Independent Creator Program Grant; Will Data Drive the Future of AR?
BadVR, an AR and VR data visualization startup, has been awarded a grant from Magic Leap
The company will commercialize an app that allows people to see and interact with the layers of digital signal data around them
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 28, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, BadVR was named an awardee of Magic Leap's independent creator program grant. The augmented reality company chose BadVR's immersive data visualization app, called 'SeeSignal,' out of 6,500 applicants, supporting their mission to help people see and interact with invisible layers of digital signals, like WiFi, Bluetooth, and 5G.
'SeeSignal' was born at the Magic Leap / AT&T hackathon in late 2018, and initially built in less than 48 hours. Using the app, people walk around holograms that precisely model the radio frequency signals coming from their cell phones, home routers, and wireless devices. Using patent-pending sampling algorithms, data spatialization, and a touch of machine learning, the app can also recommend where to place these devices to improve coverage and eliminate dead zones. SeeSignal is intended for use both at home and in the workplace.
"We believe the future lies at the intersection of art, data, poetry, and immersive tech," said Suzanne Borders, CEO & Founder of BadVR. "It's thrilling to discover that Magic Leap shares this vision. We're excited to work with them to herald the birth of a new world, led by the reinvention of how we see, interact with, and understand the information around us."
The awarding of this grant reinforces Magic Leap's support for innovative business and enterprise applications of spatial computing. Data visualization and analytics has emerged as a leading use case, democratizing access to complex information by presenting it in an intuitive and accessible format.
"As we add new partners into our Magic Leap Independent Creator Program, we are thrilled to welcome BadVR as a distinguished and valuable member," said Rio Caraeff, Chief Content Officer, Magic Leap. "We look forward to partnering with BadVR to develop exciting new levels of immersive computing and entertainment as we move into the future together."
