Back to School Anything but Routine for Oregon Virtual School Students
Online School Students Hit Classrooms without ever leaving home
NORTH BEND, Ore., Aug. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- New school supplies and meeting new teachers are still part of the first day of school for Oregon Virtual Academy (ORVA) and Insight School of Oregon (ISOR) students across the state. They'll meet each other in homeroom and catch up with classmates from last year, but there won't be any backpacks, school cafeteria food or catching the bus for these students, who go to school full-time online. Instead, they'll be learning how to log on, manage their homework and meet their assigned teacher as they learn from home.
ORVA and ISOR are tuition-free, online public school, available to students in grades across the state of Oregon. Students attend school full-time online, and use the internet to access the engaging, award-winning K¹² curriculum. A public school choice, ORVA and ISOR gives parents and families the opportunity to maximize their success with individualized learning.
Similar to any first day of school, a student meets virtually with his or her Oregon-credentialed teachers and logs in to explore the topics they will study that year. While the technology makes it possible to focus on each student's individual academic challenges and strengths, it is the partnership between parents and teachers that makes online learning a powerful education alternative for a variety of students. ORVA and ISOR teachers provide a child-centered learning experience, offering instruction and support, one-on-one guidance, and regular interaction with students and parents via an online classroom, email, phone or face-to-face meetings. Students have a vibrant school community with plenty of social interaction as well, working with peers in the online classroom, and gathering in-person for events like science fairs and service projects.
Students enroll in ORVA or ISOR for a wide variety of reasons. Some are advanced learners, motivated to increase their knowledge beyond the basic course offerings, while others are athletes or performers looking to balance a full schedule, as well as those who benefit from a different learning environment and a focused one-on-one learning experience.
Drew Hinds, Head of School for ORVA said "Oregon Virtual Academy is excited about the beginning of another school year. Our staff and teachers are completely dedicated to helping thousands of Oregon students succeed, from the first day of school through to graduation."
ORVA and ISOR are still accepting enrollment of students in grades K-12 for the 2014-2015 school year. Oregon families are invited to learn more about online education by signing up for in-person and online information sessions being held across the state. To find out which school might be the right option, families are encouraged to visit k12.com/Oregon or contact an enrollment consultant at (866) 968-7512.
