Back on My Feet to Combat Homelessness in San Francisco
National nonprofit expands to Bay Area this fall
PHILADELPHIA, March 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Back on My Feet, the national nonprofit that seeks to revolutionize the way society approaches homelessness, announces today its expansion to San Francisco in November 2016. The expansion will take place during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and will combat homelessness in San Francisco through the power of running, community support and essential employment and housing resources.
Back on My Feet San Francisco aims to help San Francisco's homeless community, which has grown to more than 7,500 individuals, marking the city's highest homeless population in a decade. Expanding to San Francisco is the beginning of a growth phase for Back on My Feet and part of their strategic plan to expand to 5 additional U.S. cities and internationally by 2020.
"Back on My Feet has served more than 5,000 homeless individuals, helping 3,500 find employment and housing in 11 cities across the U.S. We are confident that our innovative and results orientated program will help transform the San Francisco homeless community," says Back on My Feet CEO, Katy Sherratt. "To deliver the greatest impact, we need this great city's support. We are calling on San Francisco's outstanding running community and countless philanthropic and innovative business and community leaders to partner with us to tackle homelessness."
Through the help of volunteers, donors and community support, the unique Back on My Feet running- based, restorative model demonstrates that if you first build confidence, strength and self-esteem, individuals are better equipped to tackle the road ahead and move toward jobs, homes and new lives. In an economic impact study commissioned by Back on My Feet and validated by an external consulting group, for every $1 invested in the organization, there is a $2.39 return to the local community. This is achieved through increased economic output from employment and reduction in costs for shelter, medical services, incarceration and addiction treatment.
The organization is currently seeking seed funding to support the launch, individuals interested in joining our local Board and corporate sponsorships for its first annual gala to be held February 2017.
