BabyList Closes Seed Funding and Introduces Product Discovery Tool
New Search Functionality Integrates with Amazon and Etsy and Launches with Partners Land of Nod, Giggle, and The Honest Company
SAN FRANCISCO, June 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- BabyList (www.babyli.st) the online baby registry that allows users to add items from any store onto one registry, today announces that it has raised $620K in seed funding from investors including 500 Startups, Okapi Venture Capital, Altair Capital, Chris Messina, Mike Greenfield and Mike Seiman. The investment will be used to further BabyList's growth through customer acquisition and the development of new features, including mobile platform.
Founded by former Amazon.com software developer, Natalie Gordon, BabyList recently graduated from 500 Startups' fifth accelerator program. The company has experienced tremendous success this year and has grown users and revenue by 20% month-over-month. In 2013, 10,000 BabyList registries have been created. BabyList users have put more than 450k items onto their baby registries this year and in May alone, over $500,000 in registry gifts were purchased off BabyList.
"When I was pregnant with my first child, I knew exactly what I wanted to ask friends and family for—frozen meals, pet sitting, an eco-friendly diaper service—but there just wasn't an online registry that addressed all of my needs," said Natalie Gordon, founder and CEO of BabyList. "Everyday we hear from users about how overwhelmed they feel and how happy they are to have found BabyList. They're not stuck at registering for just one or two stores. We're now making it even easier for our users to discover great brands and products and help them make the product decisions that are right for their families."
BabyList also announces the introduction of the Product Finder, a discovery tool that helps expectant parents identify what products to add to their BabyList registry. This launch establishes BabyList as a discovery and recommendation tool for first-time moms, many of whom have no idea what they need or which brand or model to choose. The product browser allows top brands to get in front of users when they are making critical decisions, and lets users quickly see all their options ranked by popularity. The Product Finder is initially launching with partners Land of Nod (division of Crate and Barrel), Giggle, and Jessica Alba's The Honest Company. The Product Finder also integrates with the Amazon product API and Etsy API and includes ten pilot Etsy stores.
